| Become a Ref As your looking at this page, I presume that you have at least a passing interest in becoming a rugby referee and putting into use all of the Laws you've been testing elsewhere on this site! Well firstly, well done, and secondly, welcome to the fray. Many unions (in this age of litigation) will require officially appointed referees to have taken some form of entry level test. In England this is now the ELRA (Entry Level Referees Award) which has replaced the old National Foundation Course. Many countries will have similar set-ups to either the new or old RFU structures. Depending on which country you are in, your first port of call may be someone on the national governing body. A small selection are listed below (if your union is not listed, visit the iRB's website, find your union on the drop down menu and then click on the right hand tab - labelled 'Union Contacts'):
You will be best placed to enjoy your refereeing and get the most out of it if you join your local referees' society. Your first port of call will usually be the society's secretary. Our sister site, RugbyRefs.com have an extensive list of referees' societies around the world as part of the Society Website Awards. These websites will usually have contact details for the secretary whom you can then get in touch with. (The list of websites is here). If your local society's site is not listed, then get in contact with your national union's referee contact (see above) who should be able to put you in touch with the correct person. |
